Geographical situation The region is situated mainly on the mountaineous part. There are 57 settlements on its territory. The region was occuped by armenian military troops February 26 1992.
Economic characteristics The basis of the economy of the region is agricultur, specialised in grain growing, vine growing, vegetable growing and cattle breeding. There was construction material plant, wine making plant, beer making plant, and ets.

Necropolis near Khodjali relating to the Bronze Ages,steppe with the barrows around Khodjali reflecting great number elements of so-called Khodjali-Kedabek culture always excite interest of historians. It is all antiquity.But Khodjali became history of 20th century as the city which was razed brutally to the ground during just one nigt.The inhabitants of Khodjali were killed, shot,scalped.The others who run away and survived keep signs of not seen before violence in their souls and on their bodies.
